You're already using Facebook for pretty much everything, so why not have your morning weather forecast while you're there as well?

This seems to be the line of reasoning behind Facebook's new feature, apparently available only to a small subset of users and noticed Friday by The Next Web. Some of them — mostly in the UK — are being greeted with a short "good morning" message with a weather forecast for their location.

The feature is definitely not live for everyone; for example, no one at 6oam that I've asked has received the messages. But there's more than one report on Twitter, as you can see below.

Apparently, when you click on the "see more" bit, you get a more full-featured (but still pretty basic) forecast for the day, as shown in the tweet below.

The feature has been around for at least a couple of months now — the earliest reports I've seen of it are from early March.

We've contacted Facebook to learn more about the feature but have not yet heard from the company.

If Facebook were to offer a more full-fledged weather experience, with radar imagery, for example, it could spell trouble for the booming weather app market.

5 Things Google Does With Your Data

1. Combines Personal Information Across its Services

Google may "combine personal information from one service with information, including personal information, from other Google services -- for example, to make it easier to share things with people you know."

2. Integrates Your Accounts

"If other users already have your email, or other information that identifies you, we may show them your publicly visible Google Profile information, such as your name and photo."

You may have noticed this change when the new Gmail rolled out -- your profile picture and a link to your Google+ account. Google may use that information across all platforms that require an account.

3. Tailors Advertising

"Using your information can make our products even more useful. For example, if you search for golf, are you looking to work on your drive or drive a Volkswagen? If you previously searched for information about a caddy, we can take this as a hint that you mean the sport, not the car, and we can show you the most relevant results."

Google's video on privacy principals describes how it tailors advertising for you, which also makes it easier for advertisers themselves.

This is nothing new, but the fact that your data will now be spread across all Google products has broader implications for the advertising and content you'll see when searching and browsing.

4. Aggregates Large Quantities of Anonymized Data

"We may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information publicly and with our partners -- like publishers, advertisers or connected sites."

While Google won't be sharing your personal data with any third parties, its massive quantities of anonymized will be. This is so partners and advertisers can analyze larger trends and make their products more effective.

5. Stores Your Information - Indefinitely

"When you use our services or view content provided by Google, we may automatically collect and store certain information in server logs."

Google stores anything from Google Voice data (such as phone number, calling party number, duration of calls) to device event information (like crashes, system activity and browser type). The company then uses this data to keep track of any bugs and overall trends in user experience.

Google+, a social network operated by Google, Inc., launched on June 28th, 2011 with integrations across a number of Google products, including Buzz and Profiles.

One key element of Google+ is a focus on targeted sharing within subsets of your social group, which are what Google calls Circles. Circles are simply small groups of people that you can share to, each with names like friends, family, classmates and co-workers.

Also within Google+, Google has created a section specifically for viewing, managing and editing multimedia. The photo tab takes a user to all of the photos he or she has shared, as well as the ones he or she is tagged in. It’s not just photo tagging, though: Google+ includes an image editor (complete with Instagram-like photo effects), privacy options and sharing features.

Another feature that's widely discussed is “Hangouts, ” Google’s new group chat feature. Instead of directly asking a friend to join a group chat, users instead click “start a hangout” and they’re instantly in a video chatroom alone. At the same time, a message goes out to their social circles, letting them know that their friend is “hanging out.” Friends can then join the hangout as long as they have been placed in a circle that was invited by the person who created the Hangout.
